What is a Glue Record?

As we learned in our article What Are Domains?, a domain is associated with an IP address. That IP directs visitors to the correct location on the Internet that hosts your website and its contents. In the same way, glue records or nameserver glue records, link a nameserver on the internet to an IP address. When a DNS request is made for an IP address of a specific domain, it's queried at the registrar. The registrar will provide any information that it has for the DNS. If there is a glue record, it is presented as the place to look for any DNS zones.

What is a firewall?

A firewall is a protective layer for your server that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic. It uses a set of rules to determine to allow or block specific network traffic. Firewalls can prevent unauthorized use before reaching your servers. Firewalls can be hardware or software based. In network security, the first line of defense that should always be used is a firewall.

Systemd is an init system used by several common Linux Distributions which has gained popularity since 2015. A Linux init system is the first process or daemon started on a system after the initial boot process, and manages services, daemons, and other system processes. Systemd is composed of unit files that contain the initialization instructions for the daemons which it controls. While many portions of a system can be managed with systemd, this article will focus on managing services.
