The top program provides a dynamic real-time view of a running system. It can display system summary information as well as a list of tasks currently being managed by the Linux kernel. The types of system summary information shown and the types, order and size of information displayed for tasks are all user configurable.

Screen is a terminal program that allows a user to access multiple separate terminal sessions inside a single terminal window or remote terminal session. It is useful for dealing with multiple programs from the command line, and for separating programs from the shell that started the program.

Throughout the articles in the Knowledge Base, you may have seen a few interesting characters in the examples.  Specifically, we are referring to these characters:  |, >, and <.  Today, we’re going to talk a bit about pipes.
